Dileep G. Bal, MD, MS, MPHDistrict Health Officer for the Island of Kauai, Hawaii Dileep G. Bal, MD, MS, MPH, is the district health officer for the Island of Kauai, Hawaii, and a special advisor on cancer, chronic disease, tobacco and nutrition to the director of the Hawaii State Department of Health. Prior to this position, Bal had been the chief of the Cancer Control Branch with the State of California for more than two decades. He was a clinical professor at the medical school of the University of California at Davis and published extensively in the cancer prevention and control areas. Before coming to California in 1981, Bal was the director of the Pima County Health Department and served on the College of Medicine faculty at the University of Arizona. He is very active with the American Cancer Society and was the national president in 2000–2001. Bal was born in New Delhi, India. He received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and his graduate degrees in public health from Columbia and Harvard universities.

Linda Blount, MPHNational Vice President, Office of Health Disparities, Office of the Chief Medical Officer Linda Blount was named National Vice President, for Health Disparities in April 2007. She has the responsibility for leading the effort to develop the overall health disparities strategic direction for the Society. Prior to her current role she was the Director, Strategy and Business Operations in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) from 2005 – 2007. In that position she was responsible for the strategic, tactical, and operational direction of the office and developed and implemented short- and long-term strategic plans for OCMO. Linda also focused on the integration of research and program and policy development within the Society to develop, deliver and sustain effective evidence-based programs and policy positions that directly support the American Cancer Society’s Leadership Roles, Focus Areas and Pillars. Linda has also served as Director, Planning and Development for the International Affairs Department. Prior to coming to the American Cancer Society, Linda spent ten years with Coca Cola, where she was responsible for strategic planning for Global IT in the formula management, innovation, and procurement departments. Linda has 12 years experience in international program planning and evaluation including 5 years at CDC in the office of the Director, HIV/AIDS, where she was responsible for global decision support strategies. She has consulted with the ministries of health in Germany, Jamaica, Aruba, Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Africa, and Trinidad and Tobago where she lived for 4 years. Otis Brawley, MDChief Medical Officer As the chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society, Otis Webb Brawley, MD, is responsible for promoting the goals of cancer prevention, early detection, and quality treatment through cancer research and education. He champions efforts to decrease smoking, improve diet, detect cancer at the earliest stage, and provide the critical support cancer patients need. He also guides efforts to enhance and focus the research program, upgrade the Society’s advocacy capacity, and concentrate community cancer control efforts in areas where they will be most effective. Further, as an acknowledged global leader in the field of health disparities research, Dr. Brawley is a key leader in the Society’s work to eliminate disparities in access to quality cancer care. A world renowned cancer expert and practicing oncologist, Dr. Brawley most recently served as professor of hematology, oncology, and epidemiology at Emory University, as medical director of the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and as deputy director for cancer control at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University. He has also previously served as a member of the Society’s Prostate Cancer Committee, co-chaired the Surgeon General’s Task Force on Cancer Health Disparities, and filled a variety of capacities at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), most recently serving as director of the Office of Special Populations Research. Currently, Dr. Brawley serves as chair of the National Institutes of Health Consensus Panel on the Treatment of Sickle Cell Anemia and as a member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection and Control Advisory Committee. Dr. Brawley is a graduate of University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internship at University Hospital of Cleveland, Case-Western Reserve University, his residency at University Hospital of Cleveland, and his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. |

Adawele Troutman, MD, MPH ,MADirector, Lousiville Metro Public Health and Wellness Dr. Adewale Troutman has had a distinguished record of achievement in public health education, leadership, research, and advocacy. Currently, he is the Director of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness where he leads the department’s 350 employees in the protection, preservation and promotion of the health, environment and well-being for the country’s 16th largest city. In addition, he serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Louisville School of Public Health. Dr. Troutman holds an M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and an M.P.H. from the Columbia University School of Public Health. He also earned an M.A. in Black Studies from the State University of New York, and served a residency and internship in Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Troutman also served as the Director of the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness in Atlanta, Georgia. He also served as a senior scientist for Community Health and Preventive Medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine where he worked with former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher on a study of racial disparities in health. Dr. Troutman has also served as the Director of Emergency Medical Services for the United Hospitals Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey; as Medical Director and Acting Health Officer of the Newark Department of Health and Human Services; and as Medical Director of the North Newark Health Center. |
